DPC has developed a short online training module on the caretaker conventions for use by departments and other public sector bodies.

The module will take approximately 25 minutes to complete and will help staff:

  • understand what the caretaker period is and when it applies
  • understand and comply with the caretaker conventions
  • understand how public sector bodies and employees can remain apolitical during the caretaker period
  • manage Cabinet in Confidence (CiC) records correctly prior to the caretaker period, and
  • access further information or assistance.

The module is interactive and includes hypothetical scenarios about specific caretaker conventions, to assist in understanding the caretaker conventions.  The module is designed to embed public sector employees’ knowledge of the caretaker conventions, and supplement reading DPC’s Guidelines on the Caretaker Conventions, which can be accessed online, along with a set of FAQs.
